ÖBM – Austrian Biodiversity Monitoring

Using an Austria-wide sampling system (200 plots), several biodiversity parameters are surveyed according to a uniform standard. The focus is on the open landscape, i.e. the landscape characterized by arable farming (pioneer project BINATS) and the areas dominated by meadows and pastures, including alpine pastures. Mapped are: Vascular plants, grasshoppers, butterflies, wild bees and biotope types. In 2023 and 2024, VINCA – together with the AVL and CoopNatura offices – will survey the vascular plants and biotope types in a total of 76 sample areas in the provinces of Burgenland, Lower Austria and Styria.
